Splash Page
The splash page is the page that first appears when you connect to the network. On this page you can:
- Enter an existing voucher code
- Purchase internet access
- Get free internet access (depending on Business)
- Find an existing voucher that you may have lost or forgotten
Access Point (AP)
We name the device that relays the internet signal throughout the business (but isn’t connected by LAN) the access point or AP.
Gateway
This is simply an access point (AP) that is connected to the internet via LAN. There is usually only one gateway per business, larger businesses may have a few gateway to improve connections speeds between access points.
Ethernet
Ethernet cables are the physical connection between devices and the internet router.
Bandwidth
Bandwidth is the available capacity. Bandwidth can be described as a motorway, the larger the motorway the more cars you can fit on it. If there are more cars than the motorway can handle you end up driving slowly or at a halt waiting for the traffic to move.
IP Address
An IP address is a unique numeric identifier given to you by the access point. It tells other devices on the network where your device is located. Every device participating in a computer network (wireless or wired) will have a IP address allocated to it. An example of an IP address is: 192.168.0.1
MAC Address
A MAC address is a unique identifier that is assigned to your device (this number cannot be changed). In our systems a MAC address will be tied to a voucher, so when you join the wireless system again it will automatically authenticate you. An example MAC address is: 00:0a:95:9d:68:16
SSID
An SSID is simply the network name.
URL
URL stands for uniform resource locator. It is simply the address that you are typing in. An example of a URL is: http://www.campingconnect.co.uk/
