Troubleshooting power to a Wi-Fi location

On occasion, it would be necessary to determine why a location may not be functioning optimally. In most cases, this will be resolved by resetting the equipment ( Turning the power off for 30 seconds, followed by turning back on). To achieve this it will be necessary to locate the power source for the equipment and consider the following:

  • Any in-line hook-up or electrical fuse boxes/trip switches are on.
  • Ensure that the power feeding the trip is live by using the RCBO test button – if the test button does not trip off the trip switch it indicates that the power feeding this location is not live. You may need to get an electrician to investigate.
  • Checking the transformer plug and black POE injector is operational. You can verify it is still working if there is a green LED lit. ( See image below )

Location Type 1 – Access point / Bridge powered from inside building 

Location Type 2 – Access Point / Bridge powered via box connected to DU or Caravan hookup

Location Type 3 – Access Point / Bridge powered via plug inside lamppost

Location Type 4 – Access Point / Bridge powered via DU or Caravan hookup
